Cathouse, 2015

Cathouse is a spoof movie poster about a fuzzy house of ill repute.  The neon kitty is a beacon to tomcats.  The carpeted exterior makes the cathouse easy to climb.  Come on up.  The cathouse is always open.

This isn’t really a horror movie spoof like some of my other pieces.  Unless, of course, you were living near the cathouse.  Then the ensuing noises might be truly obnoxious.  Maybe that would be pretty horrible after all.

Fortunately it’s just a picture.  It doesn’t make any noise.  Though if you really wanted it to make noise, for a fee, I could come up with something.  Maybe that could be a new avenue in art.  Pictures could have a frame with an embedded .mp3 player.  Hmm.  Maybe not.

The cathouse in this image is not a real kitty condo.  I drew the outline in Illustrator and then imported it into Photoshop.  I used my camera to take a photo of my carpet and used that to apply some texture to the various parts of the cathouse.

I used my drawing tablet to modify the outline of the parts to look more fuzzy instead of having rigid lines.  I think the result actually looks fairly realistic.  It’s a new technique for me.  I like the results so I may use it again in the future.

I drew the neon kitty in Illustrator.  Once I had the basic shape I brought it into Photoshop.  I used some layer effects to make it glow and look like neon.

Some people have told me that the fine print is the best part.  It reads: “May encourage some cats to caterwaul and engage in other obnoxious behaviors.  Based on the new original screenplay, “Confessions of a Cat Madam” by Parti Queen.”

Cathouse is a digital illustration done in Photoshop and Illustrator.
